Sketchbook

These sketches were created using fibre tip pen, masking fluid and washes of
thin paint. I was out sketching in a park with M and we were sitting under a canopy of leaves with the sunlight shining through.

High Summer

High Summer

This is one of the paintings I am intending to put in the exhibition. I took my inspiration from the open expanse of the Heath and the trees on the horizon.
I enjoyed the process of colour blending then adding my trademark hard edge circles to create a sense of pictorial depth.

SKY BLUE

This is the starting point for one of my paintings. I have really saturated the colours in this photograph to give them an intense unreal quality. I don't actually paint from photographs; I just use them for ideas.

Abstract Circles

I really like this circle effect I get when I take photographs. Small hard edge circles are a feature of my paintings.

Through the Trees

Imagine lying on your back looking up at the sky through a canopy of leaves pierced by the dazzling sun. Recall the heat, stillness and brilliant light of a summer's day. It is a time past, that fleeting moment of contentment.

Look Up!

the idea for the exhibition started when a painter friend and I
were out sketching in the Hampstead area......

Sketching

looking back through my sketchbooks I came
across these drawings which were the
starting point for my paintings

I have altered the colour in this photograph
to make it brighter and to make the branches
blue.....this gave me an idea on how to tackle the
painting. I am abstracting from nature and taking my
experience of being amongst the trees and transposing it
into paintings ...its not realistic ...its an impression
